Still recovering from our week at the beach (the sand is still in between the floormats on the Prius both out of nostalgia and sheer exhaustion that thus prevents either one of us from going out there with a Dustbuster), we hit the State Fair on Thursday and ate our way from the 4-H building to the poultry barn. The weather was beautiful all week, we ate a lot of yummy food, we did some pretty hefty running, spent some time weeding the garden and installing a new shower door, and ended the weekend so tired but happy. A pretty near-perfect weekend. Wish you were here…

Thursday, David and Chris took the train from Fishers down to the Fairgrounds where they met Emily after work. We’d been telling him about the Fair all week, so he was pretty excited

He’d also been hearing the train whistle all week (we only live about a mile from the station, and the tracks cross pretty close to us, too)

And as if riding the real train wasn’t enough, he could have spent all afternoon watching the model train at the Ball State University exhibit

Good gourd! Here’s your requisite photo of produce. Just be glad I didn’t include the pictures of the moldy pies this year…and man, there were some doozies…

Sitting on what we took to be an example of sustainable furniture made from plywood. Not so comfortable or attractive, but fun to climb on

Sigh. You all know what Emily’s favorite part of the Fair is: the corn dog. So, she takes two bites of hers, gives it to David, blinks, and this is what remained. Not that the crispy-mealy-sweet fried coating isn’t awesome, but David scarfed that, too. Two bites people. That’s all she got. Next year, David will get his own corn dog, mark my word

Trying on a metal soldier’s hat and learning about history. Or just trying on the hat because it was there to touch

Got your goat? I remember my first State Fair in North Carolina, and I touched a goat for the first time, too. he was far less scared of animals this year, so it was a lot more fun to take him through the livestock exhibits

Goats? Seemed more like piglets, since they totally knew to hang out near the food dispensers
