We got up early Saturday morning and made our way (with the Kellers) to Santa Claus, IN. Yes, there really is a Santa Claus IN, and it’s home to Holiday World. Very clean, free sunscreen, lots to do, and dude…free soda all day long! We stayed for nine hours (no naps) and still encountered no major meltdowns (at least from David). We spent most of the day at the waterpark, so apologies for not having too many pictures of that, but you understand. The weather was beautiful, and we even convinced the nice ride attendants to let us go down the big water slide with David (who really is 36” tall!) so we got to do one or two big people rides, too.
We arrived back home by lunchtime on Sunday and spent most of the afternoon napping, tidying, and puttering in the kitchen. By day’s end, we’re all tired again, but we had a lovely time. Even if we were a little crabby

This kid is becoming more and more like his Aunt Sara everyday. We started off Thursday morning with a fit over not wanting to wear these shoes. Mommy won. Score

And so the Holiday World adventure begins. Here is the first of many rides that David would go on that did little more than go around and around. He enjoyed it, but Emily (in the background, arms raised in excitement) seemed to be enjoying his first ride even more than he did

Not as thrilled with the salmon run ride, but maybe that’s because it went up and down while also going around and around, and it wasn’t the smoothest ride ever. Perhaps it was a little too “carnie” for his tastes, which sill made us look forward to the State Fair in August. Funny, then, that David should be wearing his John Deere t-shirt (really, though it was only because it matched his swim trunks and it was bright enough to be able to better locate him if he were to get lost)

David and Elliot go for a spin on the kiddie version of the log flume ride. No big drops and no big splashes, but all the thrill of being out on the open water

We drove three hours to get here, and within an hour of arriving, we found ourselves waiting in line to go for a drive in a fake car. Where’s the sense in that? David was still happy enough, though

Maybe he didn’t mind the wait because he knew he’d be allowed to drive. Emily remembered going on the antique car ride at Disney World with Cappy and getting yelled at the whole time because she kept running into the metal strip down the middle of the track. David apparently takes after his mother, then, because he did a terrible job with steering this time around, too. Dude wouldn’t keep his eyes on the road

What, do you think you’re out for a Sunday drive or something? Have you ever seen the SNL skit of “Toonces the Driving Cat”? Do you remember what Toonces’ little paws looked like on the steering wheel whenever he would drive? This is what David looked like when he “steered” the car. Thank goodness our top speed was about 2mph.
