We headed to Bloomington Friday night and hung out with the Ingalsbes (thanks, Nate and Suzanne) and then got an early start Saturday for the IU Circle of Life Mini Marathon and 5K. While Chris’s time was awesome, Emily realized that a) running outside is much harder than running on a treadmill, especially when the entire course is up and down hills b) running in the cold makes breathing very difficult, and c) dude, David+jogging stroller= 50 pounds of heavy.

We enjoyed lunch at the hippie grocery store, made another stop at the hippie garden store, and then fell into bed once we returned home. Yes, it was a beautiful day out, but the naps needed to come first.

Sunday, Emily was up early again for another run (with a new friend she made at the IU Mini;) and then we all headed out to the garden to experience varying levels of mud. It felt good to be in the sun, to have dirt under our fingernails (or in David’s case, to have sand in his ears and mouth) and to get our vegetables started. Today’s crops: lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, broccoli, and sweet peas. Next week: cucumbers, okra, squash, and possibly tomatoes and peppers and eggplants. We also put in some peonies, clematis, and a hydrangea. We’ll see what happens…

What a glorious day! Even after all the running around we did all weekend (literally…we had 24 miles between the two of us), we still headed out for a bike ride Sunday afternoon, and then treated ourselves to buffalo burgers on the grill. Ah, finally spring

At last! Some buds finally appear in the yard! Spring is on its way!

However, the bed in the backyard has not fared so well. Of the hundreds of bulbs Chris planted in the fall, we've seen about six crocuses so far. Why? Was it because of the weeks and weeks of rain? The late cold snap? No. it's the frickin' bunnies that we used to be so happy to see, hopping merrily in the yard. Yeah, they're so merry because they've eaten all our flowers

David "helps" Mommy stretch before she runs the IU Mini Marathon 5K (from Hell). It was cool this year that he was able to run on the "tall" elevated track in the fieldhouse this year. Kept him busy, although it was a challenge to keep him away from the sand pit at the end of the long jump. Though, it would probably have been the first sand castle in that pit.

Daddy smiles while David fuels up on some pre-race grapes. It's tough work sitting in the stroller, being all heavy

The "pleece-m'cycle" gets ready to head up the Mini, with the pace car, pace bicycles, and Daddy close behind. The cool morning mist and the rising sun did actually make for a pretty run, if physically uncomfortable

This is what David and Mommy did while we waited for Daddy to finish (though we didn't have to wait long!) Once we got closer to the diggers, they were apparently too loud for David. He only likes diggers from a distance (and on YouTube -- over and over and over)

Here he comes! 1:34! You go, SpeedyPants! And might I add, would you check out the sexy legs on this one? Those quads, those thighs...he may spend his days sitting at a computer in a fluorescent cube farm, but the man's got some legs!
